Our Financial Advisers are experienced in creating investment portfolios tailored to our individual client needs. However, if you are looking to invest yourself, here are some of our tips:
Learn what your options are
Before you choose what areas to invest in, it is important you take the time to research the different investment options available to you as well as the different sectors. Otherwise you could invest in areas that are not suitable for your individual circumstances.
If you do not have enough time to fully understand all of your investment options and the tax implications of specific investments, you may want to consider taking Financial Advice.
Define your financial goals
Before you start investing, you should define your financial goals. Creating financial goals give you motivation to create a budget and stick to it. At Four Wealth Management, our Financial Advisers recommend defining short, medium and long term financial goals.
Create an investment plan
Having an investment plan will help you to achieve your goals. Your plan can include how much you are planning to save monthly, what accounts you are going to save into for example a pension or ISA and what investments you want to invest in. Having a plan will help diversify your portfolio to mitigate risk.

Avoid high risk investments
When you are investing you should consider the level of risk you wish to take and the amount of time you are expecting to remain invested.
If you are investing for the long term you may be able to take more risk with your investment choices and therefore potentially get greater returns.
However, it is important not to opt for too many high risk investments in case your circumstances change or in case the investment does not work out in your favour.
Diversify your portfolio
Portfolio diversification will mitigate risk by making sure you are not invested in the same sectors and have a variety of fund managers.
Monitor your investment performance
It is important to review your investment portfolio every 6-12 months to make sure that it is on track to meet your goals. This will also allow you to review your attitude to risk and the areas that you are invested in.
If you do not have time to monitor your own portfolio, it may be beneficial to have a Financial Adviser who will rebalance your portfolio when necessary and adopt it when your circumstances change.
Get Financial Advice
